The strange but loveable character of TomKat Murr will reveal himself in Judith Bingham’s new piece written for Convivium Music. The text is from ETA Hoffman’s satirical novel “The Life and Opinions of the Tomcat Murr”, Hoffman being the supreme teller of tales in nineteenth century Germany. Schumann himself was steeped in Romantic literature and the concert includes his marvellous song cycle Liederkreis Op 24 set to words by the poet Heine.
